My Homey, Your Homey Tweet Both homeopathy and “real” medicine involve a lot of placebo effect. I’m not saying they’re equal, but that often neither will work if the person doesn’t believe they will.
True Wombat Factoid Tweet I learned this fact while researching wombats for a book I was writing that everyone who has read loves and still quotes passages back to me but, sadly, you will probably never see.
Admirable Women Tweet OK, the joke is good, but looking at the strip now I think maybe I should have left out Penn saying “Um” because the way I drew it too many people think it’s the bear saying it.
Press One to Fire Tweet I think I thought of this pun as a kid, probably while watching Gunsmoke, but just never thought of how to use it as a cartoon. Aren’t you glad I finally figured it out?!?!
Like Thunder Tweet I thought of this one years ago, and I think drew a version of it for ‘Cottage & CO’, but I kept hearing that people didn’t get it. Hopefully, you do.
Silencers Tweet According to one source, the first effective silencers for guns were actually designed to be sound mufflers for machinery. Also, I’m surprised I didn’t get any complaints about a comic strip that may involve guns.
Reptiles vs. Everyone Else Tweet For several years in this strip there was an annual competition between the reptiles and everyone else. It started with football, then I know they played tug-o-war, and I can’t remember what all else. Wonder why I got away from it?
Violent Workshop Tweet I love it when seminars are offered on topics like this and the way the flyer is worded you’re not really sure whether they are in favor of violence or alcoholism or whatever.
Reflexology Tweet I don’t think cats know they’re cats, what with the way they seem to hate other cats.
No Bad Advertising Tweet We were on a company picnic to the local AA minor league team (“The Bladder Spasms”) and we kept hearing all these endorsements for foul balls, double plays, walks, seemingly every conceivable play. I suggested we do this (since we are a hospice company). The marketing staff didn’t go for it. The funny thing was that, about five minutes after I suggested it, the local team actually pulled off a suicide squeeze!
