My first shot at this joke was a little racier. I’m glad I went with this version. It’s just a one word difference, but I think words are important.
Thinking this did help me enjoy the movie even more. (For the record, I liked the 2nd one better than the 1st.)
Yes, that is an exact quote from “Fellowship of the Ring.” I wonder if Tolkien meant something else, though.
Some of my favorite old Cottage & CO cartoons were the single-panel, one-off gags. Think “Rubes” meets “Mister Boffo”.
I really did see the headline mentioned in the first panel. From there, this strip practically wrote itself.
I tried suggesting this for the women singers at our church. They didn’t go for it, but at least they didn’t throw anything at me.
For years, Burt Cottage (pictured above) was the star of my comic strip Cottage & CO. But then I realized people liked the animals better. Still, I miss Burt and occasionally bring him back.
