RBA – Theme for This Year’s Calvinist Evangelism Conference: “Don’t Bother”

Hundreds of Calvinists from across the Lone Star State who gathered in San Antonio this weekend to learn how to do evangelism were challenged by the theme, “Don’t Bother”.

“This really brought the Great Commission home to me in a very real, very personal way,” said Olin Prince, pastor of the Paramount Avenue Calvinism Church in Amarillo, TX. “Jesus’s imperative in the Great Commission was neither ‘go’ nor ‘make disciples’, it was ‘given to me’, meaning him.”

Another attendee, from nearby Gruene, TX, (which he said was pronounced “Green” but we’re pretty sure he was putting us on), spoke of the great sense of relief he felt when reminded that his lifelong failure to evangelize a single person was not failure on his part because everyone he had ever tried to share the gospel with had already been predestined to reject the gospel message. “I can just spend Sundays after church watching the Cowboy game because that’s what I was created to do. I just wish the Cowboys had been predestined to win a few more these last couple decades.”
